Inspiring Communication Skills

Why do some presenters stand out above others? What makes them engaging and inspiring? Why are their voices so rich and attractive? What communication skills do they use? And what have they got that you haven't got?

The answer is probably nothing. They are just using a number of techniques which you can learn too. We are here to show you how. We've carried out rigorous research into what gives some people the mysterious 'X-factor' and we believe that anyone can learn to become a more inspiring speaker.

As part of our study we interviewed people who speak for a living: barristers, broadcasters, politicians, religious leaders, teachers and toastmasters. We asked whether great public speakers are born or made. The general reply was that nurture plays a bigger role than nature.

We certainly notice massive improvements in our clients after training and we believe the X-factor arises from a combination of individual features, both personal and technical. When we show you how to enhance your voice, body language and presentation structure we fully expect you to develop a more stimulating presence and to have more impact with your words.

"What techniques will I learn?"

As well as ensuring that you have appropriate speech volume and clear speech, we will focus on the musicality of your voice. Musical ups and downs are vital for vibrant, enthusiastic communication. (Don't worry if you are tone deaf - this is not a singing lesson.) Enhancing the natural music of your speech will make your voice more attractive and appealing, and people will want to listen more closely.

The way that your sound echoes around the air-filled spaces in your body can also add life, tone and variety to your voice. The balance of echoes (resonance) in your mouth, nose and chest affects how others hear you. Perhaps you sound shrill or booming, or as if you have a blocked nose. Or maybe your voice just needs the odd tweak. We will help you balance your resonance, bringing out your best tones and creating variety to stimulate your audience.

Everyone responds to rhythm, and we will make you more aware of the rhythm in your speech. We will also encourage you to vary your speaking pace at times, and to include pauses at appropriate moments. This will result in a more varied and musical sound, which will persuade people to listen with interest.
