Banish Fear Of Public Speaking

Millions of people have a fear of public speaking, so if you are nervous or worried about your presentation skills, you are not alone. Surveys show that more people are scared of talking in public than they are of dying, and more than half of UK business leaders admit it is the most daunting part of their job.

Our confidence training and coaching will teach you how to harness those nerves and use them appropriately. We will show you how top speakers and leading actors give their performances a certain edge and bring sparkle to their speech with some very simple techniques.

Once you are fully aware of how to prepare for a talk, how to sound good, and how to look professional, you will become less nervous and will start to appreciate the art of public speaking. Add confidence coaching to the mix, and with your new skillset you need never fear a presentation or a media interview again.

Fear of public speaking can dilute your message

When you are nervous your breathing becomes shallower and faster and your heart-rate increases. You may start to shake or sweat. Feeling like this makes you worry even more. This increases your adrenalin levels and exacerbates your symptoms, forcing you into a vicious circle.

Watching a nervous presenter is uncomfortable for the audience as well as for the poor speaker. As the German writer Bertholt Brecht once said, "Nothing on stage is as interesting as a man trying to get a knot out of his shoelace." So if your audience sees you shaking or hears your voice trembling, they may focus more on your predicament than on the message you are trying to put across.

We can help you become confident and comfortable

Our confidence training investigates why you are nervous and provides advice on how to overcome your individual fears.

We often find that people are scared of talking in public purely because they have never been trained how to do it. Their fears are analogous to those of a front-line soldier going to war without a gun. Give the soldier a gun and show him how to use it and, although the dangers remain the same, he becomes more confident about protecting himself.

Likewise, presenting a talk without appropriate knowledge of what you are doing will make you nervous. But once we give you the presentation tools to use and show you exactly how to use them, you will feel much more comfortable and your perceived enemy (the audience) will no longer appear so frightening.

Our confidence training and coaching breaks down public speaking into two constituent parts: the structure and content of what to say, and how to use your voice and body language to say it effectively. When you get to grips with these public speaking techniques you will start to develop a new, calm confidence and should grow to enjoy your presentations.

But does it really work?

Yes it does. For example, one client came to us recently after spending eighteen months in therapy trying to get over his fear of public speaking. At the end of our two day workshop he was delighted with his progress. He said that that we had done more for him in just two days than his therapist had achieved in a year and a half. He is not alone in conquering his nerves. Everyone who trains with us becomes less nervous about speaking in front of others.

Training sessions

Simply Speaking confidence training courses last either one or two days and are based on a workshop format to provide lots of opportunity for practice and feedback. They are either open to the public or tailored specifically to individual company requirements. We keep our group sizes small to ensure that everyone benefits from individual attention.

In addition we provide one-to-one training sessions which last from two hours to a full day, depending on your needs. We also offer an ongoing consultancy service which supports your learning and development and provides help as and when you need it (terms and conditions apply).
